The newly opened Emory at Dunwoody is a transformative step forward in how healthcare is delivered in a modern outpatient setting. Designed in close collaboration with Emory Healthcare, this 3-story, 70,000-square-foot medical office building brings together the insights of over 100 care providers, physicians, and staff to shape an environment that supports both clinical excellence and patient well-being.
As healthcare continues to shift toward outpatient care models, Emory at Dunwoody stands as a forward-looking example of what’s possible when design responds directly to the complexities of care delivery. Every detail was guided by the real-world experiences of those on the front lines, resulting in a space that balances performance, comfort, and adaptability.
Key Design Innovations:
- Flexibility at its Core
The clinical layout was designed with change in mind. Universal room types and modular planning strategies allow departments to scale or shift as service lines evolve, making the space as agile as the care it supports.
- Holistic, Integrated Care
Emory at Dunwoody unites a wide range of specialties—including family medicine, orthopaedics, cardiology, and physical therapy—under one roof. This multi-specialty model not only simplifies the patient journey but also encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration that can lead to better outcomes.
- Collaboration-Centric Design
Caregiver zones are thoughtfully placed to encourage teamwork while maintaining clear separation from patient areas, supporting privacy, focus, and operational efficiency. Support spaces and shared amenities are strategically distributed throughout to reduce friction and improve staff workflows.
- A Seamless Patient Experience
From intuitive wayfinding and ample daylight to calming material palettes and comfortable waiting areas, every element is designed to reduce stress and foster a sense of ease and trust for patients and their families.
A Continued Partnership in Innovation
Emory at Dunwoody represents the latest chapter in our long-standing relationship with Emory Healthcare, one of the nation’s leading academic health systems. Together, we have worked to create environments that meet today’s needs while also anticipating what care must look like tomorrow.
At May Architecture, we believe that great healthcare design is about more than efficiency and aesthetics. It is about shaping spaces that empower caregivers, dignify the patient experience, and drive institutional progress.
