Northside Diagnostics Clinic & Lab

Bringing Light, Flow, and Flexibility to Diagnostic Care

Located on the second floor of a new medical office building, the 13,675 SF Northside Diagnostics Clinic and Lab was designed as a centralized diagnostic hub, serving both its own clinic and surrounding Northside practices. The facility optimizes patient flow, enhances staff efficiency, and allows for future expansion. May Architecture worked closely with Northside to create a forward-thinking design that prioritizes workflow, patient experience, and adaptability for evolving diagnostic technologies.

The clinic includes 18 exam rooms, a pulmonary function test (PFT) exam room, an ultrasound room, and an X-ray room. The diagnostic lab features a dedicated waiting area, six lab draw bays, and a centralized island-style workstation layout to support an efficient workflow. Staff support areas include private offices, a conference room, and a break room with exterior views. The facility incorporates patient flow enhancements such as a U-shaped draw lab area for optimal visibility and movement, as well as pod-based workstations to support intuitive wayfinding. A key aspect of the design is its built-in expansion capability, allowing for the seamless integration of additional equipment as diagnostic technology advances.

May Architecture’s design focuses on several key features that enhance both functionality and user experience. The future-ready lab design includes dedicated expansion space, ensuring adaptability for new diagnostic technologies. The workforce-centered layout uniquely positions the lab along a window—an uncommon feature in laboratory environments—allowing natural light while maintaining controlled climate conditions for staff comfort. The island-style lab layout and custom millwork improve organization, efficiency, and accessibility. Additionally, the integration of intuitive wayfinding elements, such as pod-based workstations, enhances both staff and patient navigation throughout the facility. Recognizing the growing demand for outpatient imaging, the design incorporates dedicated ultrasound and X-ray rooms to support this expanding sector of healthcare.
